Shelter

Discover the unsung heroes who worked to create havens for the victims of violence. SHELTER depicts the history of women seeking refuge, the emergence of shelters in the 1970s and where we as a nation stand on these issues today. Through dance, theatre and film, SHELTER amplifies the stories of real women, whose voices often go unheard, and explores the triumphs and challenges these vital services face.

This work was created by collaboration with Neoteric Dance collaboration in support of One Billion Rising – a campaign to end violence against women, that uses art and activism to educate and inspire. One in three women, that’s ONE BILLION WOMEN on the planet, will be raped or beaten in her lifetime.
